The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a Lecturer with a demonstrable ability to teach and research within the broad area of Indo-Pacific studies. The Lecturer supports the research and teaching activities of the School and will be involved in advancing the School's international profile by conducting scholarly research, contributing to the supervision of research students, and undertake a range of teaching duties.Indo-Pacific Studies as we teach it is an interdisciplinary subject that explores the political, cultural, sociological, anthropological, historical and security dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region. We anticipate that a wide range of disciplinary and scholarly backgrounds will contribute to the major but have particular needs in terms of an ability to teach survey courses focussed on the comparative politics, history or culture of either the Southeast Asian or Pacific sub-regions.Responsibilities:
The Lecturer will have a demonstrable ability to teach and research within our new undergraduate program (and major) in Indo-Pacific studies and:
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
  • Maintain a strong research profile and outputs in areas/aspects relevant to the Indo-Pacific.
  • Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
Who You Are:
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • A PhD in the Social Sciences or Humanities, in a field relevant for understanding, teaching and researching issues in the Indo-Pacific region (or any part thereof).
  • May have a focus on a specific set of issues in the Indo-Pacific (such as defence, security, politics, culture, etc), but brings to the position a willingness to explore and contribute to a wider Indo-Pacific scholarship.
  • A proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline and inter-disciplinary knowledge and developments concerning this region.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design with experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level both face to face and online.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
