With more than 130 years of financial experience and over 22,000 partners, we serve the world’s most sophisticated clients using leading technology and exceptional service.Role SummaryThis is a key role in a newly created team, which engages with senior members of Northern Trust to enhance the internal control environment and support successful remediation of non-financial risk (e.g. operational risk, operational resilience, financial crime, compliance) regulator and significant audit findings.The Specialist provides practical guidance, functional expertise, expert direction, and execution rigor to significant non-financial risk remediation activities, and will help build strong, cross-functional relationships throughout the organization.A good communicator, this individual promotes a collaborative approach to enhance the risk and control environment for the organization. The role will report directly to the Head of Strategic Remediation Oversight – Non-Financial Risk.What you will doPortfolio Management
  • Support the effective review and challenge of critical Regulatory/Audit remediation initiatives across NTC including responses, remediation plans, remediation program, and regional and global key deliverables
  • Working within the team to identify critical gaps in NTC’s responses and remediation initiatives and present feedback / challenge in governance forums, including supporting information to regional and global senior management/risk committees across business, risk, and compliance, in advance of the formal submission to the regulators/Audit
  • Support clear and transparent updates on remediation progress to relevant risk forums
  • Act as an advisor and provide guidance to business and corporate functions in responding to regulatory or audit inquiries, responses, and remediation plans and implementing remediation programs
  • Determine if remediation programs clearly articulate risk reduction and demonstrate enhanced control environment with evidence of design, operational effectiveness and sustainability (where applicable)
  • Actively engage key stakeholders across the NTC and working closely with subject matter experts on relevant remediation programs
Operational
  • Support the oversight of all significant remediation activities within assigned areas of responsibility as well as input to the running of the overall Significant Remediation Oversight and Governance management team.
  • Work closely with the Remediation Validation testing team to ensure the testing plans are robust and aligned with the remediation activities undertaken
  • Interact and partner with senior management to understand remediation plans, timelines etc., and challenge as necessary.
  • Maintain familiarity of and technical expertise with business unit(s) organizational structure, personnel, activities and products, new product development, financial performance, and risk and problem areas
  • Stay current on non-financial risk regulatory rules and changes within the industry
  • Leverage a strong peer network and tap the industry to identify leading practices
About You
  • Tertiary qualification
  • Demonstrated technical abilities in select areas (e.g., Regulatory compliance, operational risk, operational resilience)
  • Proven experience in financial services, with experience in a financial institution, or similar consulting experience in the financial services industry specifically in a non-financial risk area
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate flexibility to change plans at short notice
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas top-down, ask targeted questions, give robust challenge to arrive at solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills displaying the ability to engage diverse set of stakeholders, understand their viewpoints, build long-term relationships, create a collaborative environment within the team
  • Persuades managers and leaders to take action and/or negotiates with internal partners such as Risk, Compliance & Audit
