Wind Energy AnalystDepartment: OperationsEmployment Type: Full TimeLocation: SydneyDescriptionCubico is looking for a wind energy analyst to join the company's growing Technical Team. The role will be varied, with the successful candidate contributing towards the internalisation of capabilities related to energy yield analysis for in-house development activities and potential acquisition targets.The role is based in Sydney, Australia, and will report into the Energy Analysis and Performance Manager based in London. This role is based in Australia to provide more close support to the local project development, but involvement in supporting projects in all regions where Cubico is present is expected.Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will join Cubico's multidisciplinary Technical Team, reporting to the Energy Analysis and Performance Manager, and will be responsible for the completion of a wide range of analysis tasks, including:
  • Site feasibility assessments (resource and production);
  • Measurement campaign design/specification
  • Site constraints definition (acoustic and environmental curtailments, site boundaries, etc.)
  • Site design optimisation (turbine selection, layout design, etc.);
  • Pre-construction energy yield assessment for wind projects in line with industry best practice;
  • Review and challenge third party energy yield assessment reports for wind projects. Including identification of critical issues or further analysis requirements;
  • Site visits (infrequent);
  • Support the tendering process for third party energy yield analyses, including scope definition
  • Support the continued development of Cubico's energy analysis methodology, processes and tools, including feeding in lessons learnt from Cubico's operational portfolio;
  • Provide ad-hoc technical support to Cubico's regional Development teams.
  • Support the acquisition of both pre-construction and operational solar projects and portfolios.
  • Support contract negotiation (e.g availability or performance warranty etc.)
Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseThe successful candidate will be:
  • Analytically minded with a focus on attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Self-motivated, able to take responsibility for tasks and work independently, while providing support to the wider team;
  • Able to communicate complex technical issues in a concise manner for the benefit of non-technical staff, both verbally and in writing;
  • Enthusiastic to develop a greater understanding of energy analysis and how it relates to the wider technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy project development and acquisition/operation;
  • An efficient self-manager; clarifying tasks and requirements, organising time and managing workload to ensure deadlines are met;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver quality work to tight deadlines.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in wind energy yield analysis desirable;
  • Track record in renewable energy project development company or technical advisory/consulting industry is desirable;
  • Experience in managing client/external stakeholder relationships;
  • Proficiency with industry software tools; e.g. Windographer, WAsP, Windfarmer, OpenWind, WindPro,, Meteodyn, WindSim, Rstudio, Python etc.
  • High level of proficiency with Excel, visual basic and macro writing experience an advantage;
  • Degree qualification in engineering, physics, maths, meteorology or similar;
  • Excellent communication skills - fluent English. Spanish, Greek or Italian languages an advantage;
  • Eligible to work in Australia;
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
Behavioural CompetenciesThe ideal profile of an individual within the Technical Team is open and outward-looking, self-motivated, with well-rounded interpersonal skills and adept at working in different cultures. The candidate will be technically focused with an ability to think independently and demonstrate initiative. While technical experience as described above is required, at least as important is an ability to understand the commercial drivers of the support the team provides, to have a customer-service oriented approach and an ability to coach/ develop others.Technical team members are happy working in a flat, flexible team able to support regional and central offices as required and are internationally mobile.Key relationships
