Medical Oncology AYA Clinical FellowFull time - 1 positionThis Clinical Fellow position provides experience and training in Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology. The fellowship is embedded within the Victorian AYA Cancer Service and has exposure to a range of tumour streams (sarcoma, testicular and brain cancer) with a focus on building the skillset for developmentally appropriate oncological care. There are excellent opportunities for AYA specific clinical experience, research, teaching and education. There are also opportunities to lead quality improvement projects under the supervision of the Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology Leadership Team. The fellowship is open to both paediatric and adult oncology trainees and may be used towards the paediatric Developmental and Psychosocial mandatory term or paediatric or adult oncology non-core training.Position SummaryThe Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service is a multidisciplinary service providing high quality oncology care to young people and their families alongside a state-wide secondary consultation service, AYA directed research and education and training programs.This Clinical Fellow position provides experience and training in Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology. EducationSkillsEssential requirements:
  • Medical Qualifications registerable by AHPRA
  • Completed at least two core years of registrar level of training in adult medical oncology or paediatric oncology
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
  • Previous research experience an advantage
  • Valid National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to commencing employment
Desirable Requirements:
  • Academic standing: PhD and/or profile including 1st author in peer reviewed publications and presentations
  • Prior experience in AYA oncology

1. Clinical Service
  • Provision of clinical care to young people (aged under 39) and their families across a range of tumour streams including sarcoma, testicular and brain cancer.
  • Provision and involvement in a range of AYA clinical services including the AYA triage meeting, transition and survivorship program.
  • Provision of clinical care in the outpatient setting.
  • Attendance at relevant multidisciplinary meetings (AYA psychosocial MDM, Adult Sarcoma MDM, Brain MDM, RCH solid MDM, selected others as appropriate).
  • Timely and accurate completion of patient related documentation, including EMR encounters, outpatient documentation and any other required documentation relevant to enhancing continuity of care
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
  • Follows hospital policies and procedure
2. Clinical Research
  • Enrols and manages patients on clinical trials
  • Participates in AYA service development with potential involvement in program development, AYA research projects and clinical audits
3. Education & Training
  • Attendance at relevant educational activities
  • Timely completion and compliance with all hospital mandated training
  • Active contribution to education of junior staff, nursing, allied health and medical students as appropriate
  • Active contribution to education and training programs as appropriate
