Our work encompasses an array of policy and program development and management roles that will enable you to utilise your abilities to the utmost – and develop new ones that will enrich your future prospects.Examples of the impact you could make include:
- working with our Pacific partners to improve regional security
- gathering government and open-source data to analyse applications to advise whether activities will affect Australia’s national interests
- Preparing the Minister to conduct talks with international counterparts on Defence strategic policies or military engagement
- Working with the Australian Defence Force to provide policy guidance for operations.

An ideal candidate for a SP&I policy role should possess a strong background in research and analysis, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and practiced leadership and people skills. They should also demonstrate critical thinking abilities, sound judgement with an innovative approach to problem solving, and the capacity to collaborate and develop strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. Experience in policy development, implementation, and evaluation would be highly beneficial.
