SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Registered Midwife coordinates and delivers high quality midwifery care to women and families of The Sutherland Hospital & Community Health Services consistent with SESLHD and The Sutherland Hospital & Community Health Services policies, procedures and standards.Where you'll be working:The Community Maternity Services at Sutherland Hospital provides Maternity care as an outpatient model with an emphasis on continuity of care. The Community Maternity Services incorporates Midwifery Group Practice (MGP), Maternity Antenatal / Postnatal Service (MAPS), the Antenatal Clinics, Midwifery in the home postnatally and the New Directions team, which provides antenatal and postnatal care to Indigenous mothers and babies. The Community Maternity Services strives to provide safe, woman centred care by working collaboratively with the women and families who engage with the service.Our Hospital and Community:Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’. Part of the (SESLHD) and located in Caringbah, the hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.The ideal candidate will have: * Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to utilise as required for the position.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with women and families to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  • Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Midwife in applying these principles.
  • Demonstrated recent post registration experience in the continuum of pregnancy care with an understanding of effective escalation and emergency Midwifery care.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage autonomous caseload and flexible on-call hours within the model of care.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
