Chandler Macleod, in partnership with Viva Energy, is seeking dedicated individuals to join the team as Emergency Response Officers. As an Emergency Response Officer, you'll play a crucial role in preparing for and responding to emergencies throughout the refinery. From fires to oil spills, your expertise will help keep our operations safe and secure.

  • Experience in emergency response, including fires, loss of containment of products, first aid response, confined space rescue, working at heights rescue, oil spill response to land and water, and gas release response – prior experience in a refinery environment is not necessary but valued.
  • Ability to create strong relationships with other team members based on trust and mutual respect
  • Ability to understand the required competencies to carry out work activities and to help develop these competencies in other members of the team
  • Ability to clearly convey ideas verbally and in writing, and to listen and understand what others are saying
  • An ability to anticipate and act on how activities will impact others and build relationships with refinery personnel in order to achieve Emergency Response Group objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to role-model safety and security behaviours and strictly comply with site requirements
Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete and document specific daily routines
  • Attend daily handover and operations meetings
  • Emergency Response Officers are responsible for effectively responding to fires and loss of containment incidents, employing appropriate protocols and equipment to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and facilities
  • Emergency preparedness activities including the inspection and testing of emergency response equipment that includes but not limited to, ER vehicles, gas detection equipment, breathing apparatus, fire protection systems, first aid and oil spill response equipment
  • Officers may be required to respond to a wide range of first aid calls providing immediate medical assistance and coordinating further medical care as necessary
  • Respond to potential confined space & work at heights rescue situations, ensuring the safe retrieval of personnel and providing medical attention as needed
  • Officers may be called upon to respond to oil spills within the refinery or on the beachfront, implementing containment and clean-up measures to mitigate environmental impact and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Officers may attend jobs in standby for potential gas releases, responding promptly to gas release incidents to assess and mitigate risks, ensuring the safety of personnel and the surrounding environment
Hours of Work
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Over a 35-day roster you will perform 7 x12-hour night (1900-0700) shifts and 7 x 12-hour day (0700-1900) shifts.
  • A reasonable amount of overtime is expected
