As a DBRE you will help design solutions for large scale engineering challenges such as how to support multi-regional scaling and data sovereignty requirements.To drive success in this role, you will have a strong background in site reliability engineering and database administration, with experience working with various data storage technologies in a public cloud environment. You should possess excellent problem-solving skills, a keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential issues.As a specialist you will primarily work alongside the Site Reliability team as well as providing expertise to application and data teams on database architecture and performance optimization. DBREs work to improve the following aspects of Cover Genius databases and datastores:ReliabilityAvailabilityPerformanceDisaster RecoveryAutomationSecurityAlong with SREs, DBREs are responsible for writing and maintaining datastore related technical documentation such as tutorials, guides, runbooks and blameless post-mortems.Key Responsibilities:Assist application teams to select and optimize datastore architectures and technologiesAssist application teams to optimize queries, migrations and perform other datastore performance tuningImplement automation and reduce toil for datastore managementDeployment, upgrade and maintenance of datastoresTroubleshoot database related production incidents (On Call)Develop, test and maintain disaster recovery procedures for datastoresImplement monitoring and alerting using key database metricsDevelop and maintain troubleshooting documentation /runbooksOptimize and control costs of the company's storage infrastructureCreating and refining SLOs for datastoresWhat you will bring:Understanding of SRE Principles and best practicesAt least 5 years experience running major database technologies in production, especially PostgreSQL and MySQL. Experienced running these technologies in cloud environments ideally AWS RDS.Experience operating other NoSQL datastores and cache technologies especially Elasticsearch, Redis, S3, DynamoDB, Bigquery and RabbitMQ.Excellent understanding of SQL and SQL database performance optimizationComfortable scripting & developing internal tooling with Bash or at least one programming language (e.g. python, go)Familiar with internals of PostgreSQLExperience working with infrastructure & configuration as code tools especially TerraformExperience working with LinuxSolid theoretical understanding of underlying data-storage technologies and tradeoffsGood knowledge of AWS and/or GCP platforms and associated best practicesBachelor Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experienceWhat you will have:Strong communication and documentation skillsCurious and self motivated learnerProfessional approachGood team memberOrganisational and time management skillsExcellent attention to detailPositive approach to changeWhy Cover Genius?Cover Genius not only cares about being the best in our industry, we care about our team.
