This role supports the delivery of high-quality customer service by assisting with day-to-day operations, including circulation duties, customer enquiries, and basic technical support. It involves maintaining the presentation and organisation of materials, processing payments, and ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment for visitors. The position also supports administrative tasks, staff training, and contributes to continuous service improvement. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.Shifts are as follows:Wednesdays: 11:45 - 19:15Thursdays: 11:45 - 19:15Fridays: 15:00 - 19:15Saturdays: 9:30 - 15:30Sundays: 12:45 - 16:15Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, development, and delivery of effective frontline customer services.
  • Maintain high standards of floor appearance, shelf order, and material presentation.
  • Promptly attend to public enquiries and escalate as needed.
  • Perform circulation duties (registrations, loans, returns, shelving, research assistance).
  • Monitor and report on the condition of stock.
  • Accurately process payments (fines, fees, sales) and record in financial systems.
  • Provide basic tech support; escalate complex issues when necessary.
  • Open, close, and secure the facilities.
  • Support Specialists with research and administrative tasks.
  • Help train new staff, volunteers, and work experience participants.
  • Attend meetings and complete relevant training.
  • Provide operational support to the team.

Essential Requirements
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in a library or similar customer service environment.
  • Sound research and written communication abilities.
  • Proven organisational and administrative skills
  • High accuracy in data entry and numeracy tasks.
  • Ability to use initiative and exercise good judgement.
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
  • Understanding of Work Health & Safety principles.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, Library Management Systems, and POS systems.
  • Current driver's licence or ability to obtain one.
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 12 months) or ability to obtain one.
Desirable
  • Qualification or progress toward a qualification in Library or Museum Studies (or equivalent).
