This role suits experienced professionals with a deep understanding of the mining sector—especially copper. You’ll lead strategy and policy initiatives, engage with senior stakeholders, support the Copper Task Force, and provide expert advice to government on legislative reform, project development, and South Australia's broader green re-industrialisation goals.ASO8 – Principal Industry Development Officer
At the senior-most level, this strategic leadership role is suited to candidates with strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management, and industry insight across multiple transition sectors. Key Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex strategies, policies, or projects in areas such as energy transition, mineral processing, clean energy, and value-adding in the mining sector—supported by strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across government, industry, and research sectors, and to represent the department in high-level discussions and negotiations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities, including experience preparing high-quality briefings, discussion papers, cabinet submissions, and business cases, tailored to executive and ministerial audiences.
  • Sound knowledge and experience relevant to South Australia’s industrial and energy transition, including awareness of contemporary market, legislative, and policy trends in areas such as copper, critical minerals, green hydrogen, or low-carbon technologies—along with project management or governance experience.
Qualifications:
Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, commerce, economics, project management, public policy or similar.Remuneration:
ASO6 salary range $98,478 - $104,165 per annum + superannuation
ASO7 salary range $108,109 - $116, 864 per annum + superannuation
ASO8 salary range $121,107 - $125,679 per annum + superannuation
Full-time roles, working 37.5 hours per weekSpecial Conditions:
  • ASO6 Industry Development Officer is a contract/term vacancy up to February 2027.
  • ASO7 Principal Industry Development/Policy Officer is a contract/term vacancy up to June 2027.
  • ASO8 Principal Industry Development Officer is a contract/term vacancy up to 30 July 2026.
  • Out of hours work may be required.
  • Intra state, interstate and international travel may be required.
