This allows us to offer the culture, flexibility, and work-life balance to align with your career and life objectives, including work location preferences.As a Lead Substation Designer/Drafter, you will be responsible for performing the design and implementation of electrical design projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. You will collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of engineers, project managers, and clients to develop efficient and reliable designs. Your expertise and leadership will be crucial in providing technical guidance, mentoring junior team members, and fostering a culture of excellence within the organisation.Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
  • Lead design role on substation primary design scope for Substation projects, which includes developing and reviewing detailed electrical designs, including primary electrical layouts, elevations, assembly drawings, detail drawings and equipment schedules
  • Drafting in software such as microstation, autocad, revit etc. Microstation is the preferred package
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and technicians, to gather requirements, assess project scope, and address technical challenges
  • Perform project lead drafter roles ensuring processes and QA are correctly performed on projects
  • Coordinating small drafting project teams, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers, fostering their professional growth and knowledge in electrical design
  • Participating in design review meetings, identify potential risks or design issues, and propose effective solutions
  • On time project delivery that satisfies client's requirements and deliver on the GHD client experience (CX) commitment
  • Support the integration of GHD ESG strategy, and sustainability and safety considerations into project design processes
What you will bring to the team:
  • Degree or Diploma in relevant field and discipline (or sufficient industry experience)
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design, with a strong focus on substation and renewable projects, preferably in a consulting or power utility business
  • Extensive experience with drafting software packages
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design principles specifically related to primary electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of substation civil/structural design will be seen very favourably
  • In-depth understanding of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations. Competent knowledge of relevant Australian and International standards, industry guidelines and current industry practice, with experience with Western Power Substation Drafting standards
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical challenges and propose effective solutions * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and clients
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet project deadline
