  • Part time positions - Fixed Term 2-year contract
  • Required to work a minimum of 20 hours per fortnight. Shift times will be in the late afternoon and evening but will vary depending on Penguin arrival times.
  • Set roster spanned over 7-days (Monday to Sunday) & public holidays, with alternating weekends off. Set rosters will alternate each fortnight:
  • Week 2: Wed, Thurs, Fri OR Mon, Tues, Sat, Sun
  • Week 1: Mon, Tues, Sat, Sun OR Wed, Thurs, Fri
  • Scale 1 - $32.91 per hour inclusive of hourly allowance for 7-day roster (Mon to Sun) & public holidays

Here, you'll discover a rewarding career and a truly great place to work.About the RoleThe purpose of the Visitor Experience Guide at the St Kilda Penguins is to educate and engage visitors about the conservation of the colony's Little Penguins and their habitat. This role involves delivering an exceptional visitor experience while promoting awareness of key conservation messages with the aim of inspiring people to act for conservation.For further details about the role, including duties and responsibilities, please refer to the Position Description - Visitor Experience Guides- St KildaNature Parks are known for their Penguin expertise, that’s why successful candidates will be inducted into Nature Parks at the picturesque Phillip Island. You’ll need to be available to attend a mandatory induction session from 6th – 9th October at Phillip Island. Transport to and from the island and accommodation will be provided for successful candidates.Following the induction with Nature Parks a mandatory onsite induction will be held at the St Kilda Penguins from 13th to 16th October, with ordinary hours of work commencing the week of the 20th October.To be successful, you must be able to attend the above sessions.About youWe are on the lookout for enthusiastic communicators who can turn a moment of wildlife observation into something truly memorable. Key Selection Criteria
  • Previous experience in visitor engagement, and customer service duties within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to provide high quality visitor experiences, interpretation, tours and information to a diverse range of visitors including non-English speaking visitors.
  • Proven ability to de-escalate and resolve conflict
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated communication and problem-solving skills
  • Possess an understanding of OH&S and maintain knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Experience in guiding in a Tourism setting (highly desirable)
  • An interest in Conservation and the Marine environment (highly desirable)
