
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic

- Install, commission, and test air conditioning and refrigeration systems including split, ducted, packaged, and evaporative units across residential, commercial, and light industrial settings.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in refrigeration and HVAC systems using diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
- Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance tasks such as checking refrigerant levels, inspecting coils, cleaning condensers and evaporators, replacing filters and belts, and calibrating thermostats.
- Install and connect refrigeration lines, copper piping, and electrical components, ensuring leak-free, safe, and compliant installations.
- Monitor system efficiency and respond to emergency breakdowns, ensuring rapid recovery to prevent disruption, particularly in food and climate-sensitive environments.
- Interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and manufacturer specifications to guide installation and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, and refrigerant handling regulations, including accurate maintenance of job records and refrigerant logs.
- Communicate with clients on system usage, maintenance schedules, and energy-saving recommendations.
- Collaborate with other trades and internal teams to ensure timely and coordinated project delivery.
- Provide mentoring or guidance to apprentices and junior technicians when required.
- Trade qualification in Refrigeration and/or Air Conditioning (equivalent to AQF Cert III or higher).
- A minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant work experience in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Proficiency in diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults across a range of HVAC systems.
- Experience with copper brazing, pressure testing, and component-level fault rectification.
- Understanding of energy efficiency principles, refrigerant gas regulations, and safety standards.
- Valid Refrigerant Handling Licence or equivalent (to be converted to ARC licence upon arrival).
- Red Seal Electrician certification (advantageous).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
