In this hands-on and strategic role you’ll be responsible for two key outcomes:1 - Defining the chapter vision, UI processes, and responsibilities2 - Actively contributing UI design expertise within a multidisciplinary product squadYou’ll also work closely with our Principal UI Designer, who owns the management and governance of the CommSec design system—ensuring consistency, scalability, and exceptional design quality across every customer touchpoint.Key responsibilitiesDefine and Lead the UI Chapter
  • Establish and evolve the chapter’s mission, operating rhythm, and standards for visual and interaction design
  • Set tangible goals for UI craft, consistency, and career progression
  • Champion the UI Designer role broadly across CommSec, collaborating with Product, CX, Engineering, and Brand to embed design quality in every phase
Coach, Develop, and Retain Talent
  • Provide regular feedback and mentorship to foster growth in visual and interface design craft
  • · Create an inclusive, supportive team where UI designers continually upskill and thrive
  • · Build a strong, collaborative chapter identity and culture
Deliver Outstanding UI Design (Squad Contribution)
  • Be a hands-on member of a product squad, delivering accessible, high-quality UI that makes complex investing simple
  • Lead consistent application of the design system across platforms and devices
  • Advocate for visually compelling, customer-centric experiences throughout product discovery, design, and delivery
Design System Collaboration
  • Partner closely with the Principal UI Designer to support ongoing design system evolution, contribution, and adoption
  • Coordinate feedback from your chapter and product squads to continuously improve system components and documentation
  • Ensure designers are equipped to utilize and extend the design system effectively
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build trusted relationships across CX, Product, Engineering, and Data
  • Clearly communicate the value of UI design to senior leaders, shaping product strategy and design priorities
Uplift UI Craft and Capability
  • Lead design reviews, critiques, and skill-share sessions
  • Identify gaps in team knowledge and drive targeted professional development
  • Champion accessibility, responsive design, and inclusive Product Design best practice
What You’ll Bring
  • 7+ years of experience designing beautiful, effective digital interfaces in agile product teams
  • Proven ability to lead UI strategy in complex, evolving product environments
  • Mastery of typography, colour, layout, motion, and brand translation for digital products
  • Experience establishing and driving adoption of design systems at scale
  • A track record of coaching UI designers to improve their craft and career outcomes
  • Ability to balance design detail and speed in fast-paced delivery settings
  • Advanced expertise in Figma (preferred), Adobe Creative Suite, prototyping tools, and visual QA workflows
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), inclusive design principles, and digital compliance requirements
  • Strong skills presenting designs, rationale and strategy to cross-functional and executive stakeholders
  • A UI design portfolio that showcases end-to-end craft, design system work, and measurable impact
