The Multimedia Group within Design Experience is on a mission to make multimedia storytelling quick, simple, and fun for everyone. This role sits in the Video subgroup, working alongside passionate engineers and designers building powerful tools for video editing, compositing, and export across platforms.At the moment, this role is focused on:Investigating and implementing solutions for video playback using rendered frames in web.Optimising rendering pipelines on Android Mobile Web, including memory usage, GPU performance, and frame timing.Exploring compositor integration strategies to maximise playback accuracy and efficiency.Collaborating closely with browser and backend teams to align on format, timing, and performance tradeoffs.Contributing to cross-platform solutions that may extend to iOS or other environments as needed.Building scalable and reusable mobile architecture aligned with Canva's broader mobile strategies.Identifying performance bottlenecks and implementing innovative solutions * Contributing to a team culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous learningYou're probably a match if you:Have strong knowledge and experience of Typescript in Android mobile webPut problem-solving and user impact before attachment to any one language or platform.Thrive in ambiguity and adapt quickly in fast-evolving projects.Have deep mobile development experience using web technologies but is comfortable thinking cross-platform.Understand the intersection of GPU, CPU, and browser rendering systems.Come with exposure to browser APIs, WebViews, or hybrid rendering pipelines.Bonus if you have experience in video, games, multimedia apps, or other high-performance visual applications where timing, memory, and graphics all matter.Can maintain and extend existing features with a mindset of maintainability and performance, someone who thinks about the solution and the user impact first - rather than someone who looks at the tools being usedEnjoy solving complex technical problems and collaborating across specialties * Excited about helping millions of users create content they loveWhat's in it for you?
