Senior Naval Consultant - LR AdvisoryLloyd's RegisterLocation: Brisbane or SydneyWhat we're looking forAs a key member of our Naval Advisory team, you'll take the lead on delivering complex and high-impact projects across the maritime domain. Your role will involve working closely with clients to provide expert guidance, while also supporting business development efforts and helping to grow our presence in the Australasia region. You'll play a pivotal part in promoting our services and building strong relationships with naval stakeholders.The successful candidate will contribute to a diverse range of advisory work, including extending the operational life of naval assets such as ships and submarines, ensuring supply chain integrity across shipyards and naval organizations, and offering technical expertise for new ship construction programs. Additionally, you'll be involved in investigating technical failures in-service, helping clients resolve challenges and improve performance.What we offer you

The role
  • Develop, lead and deliver naval advisory projects and ensure they are in accordance with quality system requirements. This includes planning and facilitating workshops, translating conclusions into recommendations, or presenting deliverables to senior external clients, advising on the most appropriate solutions and offering alternatives where needed.
  • Engage directly with senior defence and industry stakeholders in high-impact projects across acquisition, sustainment, fleet optimisation and life cycle extension.
  • Identify and win new naval advisory work, building enduring relationships with clients across Defence, government and industry.
  • Work with the Maritime Sales and Naval Service Delivery teams to promote LR's Advisory capability in Naval business.
  • Support leadership in developing the Naval business within a business area to meet future business/commercial demands to improve LR's competitive position.
  • Coordinate with other business areas and regional offices to ensure consistent development and delivery of commercial and service solutions.
  • Contribute to client management as appropriate by acting as point of contact to effectively manage client and LR relationships.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor developments within the naval sector, identifying and recommending areas for research and future advisory development to enhance LR's competitive advantage.
  • Represent LR, contributing to industry forums and supporting LR's reputation as a trusted advisor in the naval domain.
  • Manage and develop the team to maintain an effective and competitive service. This includes recruitment, performance management, talent/succession planning, training and development to build and sustain a high-performance culture
What you bring
  • Eligible for security clearance from the Australian Department of Defence.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification from a tertiary institution recognised by LR in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely-related discipline.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the naval sector, including its operational and regulatory landscape. A background as a Chief Engineer or equivalent senior engineering role (O-4 or O-5 rank) in the Royal Australian Navy or comparable naval service is advantageous.
  • Extensive professional experience, with a strong foundation in naval marine engineering and consulting.
  • Membership in relevant professional institutions and demonstrated continuous professional development through industry courses, certifications or defence-specific training programmes.
  • Proven track record in technical advisory, ideally in a commercial setting, with demonstrable experience delivering complex projects to government or defence sector clients.
  • Demonstrated business development and leadership capabilities, including business and strategic planning, developing client relationships and managing teams.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, appropriate to the requirements of the role.
