Due to a recent retirement, we have a rare opportunity for an accomplished fundraising professional to join the team at South Australia's independent, not-for-profit health and medical research institute, SAHMRI. Be inspired overlooking the beautiful Adelaide landscape whilst working from the signature ‘cheese-grater’ building!About the OpportunityWithin SAHMRI’s Fundraising and Marketing division, you will be responsible for leading the organisation’s strategic fundraising and marketing direction and activities.Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will provide leadership across all areas of Fundraising and Marketing. The Head of Fundraising and Marketing will also create a well-researched multi-channel fundraising and marketing strategy to contribute to SAHMRI’s vision and strategic plan successfully.Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Acting with initiative to design, develop and implement a portfolio of programs, campaigns and events to meet agreed fundraising and marketing goals
  • Nurturing and maintaining relationships with key donors, suppliers, contractors and researchers to grow long-term sustainable support
  • Taking responsibility for attracting corporate donations for research and event sponsorship
  • Managing and developing consistent branding, fundraising and communication materials across the organisation
  • Undertaking analysis of performance and monitoring competitors to determine and implement industry best practices for SAHMRI
  • Taking responsibility for financial performance, budgeting, forecasting and resourcing, ensuring activities and commercially sound
  • Providing detailed progress reports to the executive team and board
  • Acting as secretary to the Public Engagement and Philanthropy sub-committee and establishing a close working relationship with the chair of this committee
  • Managing the marketing plan to grow brand awareness through advertising, events and relationships
  • Overseeing the creation, production and distribution of marketing materials to communicate a compelling support proposition to a wide range of potential supporters to secure ongoing donations from the community
  • Leading the fundraising and marketing team to deliver the strategy’s tactics, targets and revenue
  • Driving the team’s performance by committing to developing them and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Working closely with the Head of Media and Communications to ensure strategies, objectives, and tactics are consistent and produced to a high standard
  • Providing guidance and support to researchers and other departments to ensure fundraising and marketing are coherent and consistent with SAHMRI’s brand and key messages
  • Promoting a positive image of SAHMRI through professional, efficient and friendly communication
  • Acting as a spokesperson and representing SAHMRI to the public at events, tours and talks
  • Overseeing the components of contracts, guaranteeing delivery of obligations and acquittals of grants
About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification with a proven track record of developing and delivering successful donor-centric fundraising strategies.Working closely within a small team, flexibility, adaptability, and a can-do attitude are critical for this varied role, and we’re looking for someone who is passionate about building meaningful relationships with people at all levels.In addition to the above, to be successful in this role you will have/be:
  • Minimum 7 years in a fundraising management role
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing successful marketing campaigns and high-quality events
  • Detailed understanding of donor databases, communications software and social media advertising
  • Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, reporting and prioritising.
  • Proven track record writing fundraising copy and marketing materials
  • Experience and knowledge of Peer-to-Peer fundraising campaigns
  • Ability to lead and manage projects independently and in teams to meet demanding timelines and expectations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a clear, communicative and collaborative style and the ability to form strong relationships with a diverse range of people
  • Robust negotiation skills with a focus on gaining consensus
  • Problem solving ability through research, reflection, analysis and rigorous evaluation
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence
It would also be great if you:
  • Are a member of FIA or similar fundraising organisation
Special requirements:
  • Some out-of-hours work may be required
  • DHS Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required
