What's the role?Join NewsCorp Australia's innovative AI/ML team as a Lead AI/ML Engineer on a 12 month contract and drive technical excellence across our cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned AI/ML professional to mentor a diverse team, build upon established best practices, and shape the technical direction of projects that directly impact millions of readers across Australia.You'll be working with the latest Google Cloud technologies, providing technical leadership across diverse AI/ML domains including generative AI, predictive analytics, and intelligent automation systems, whilst serving as the key technical liaison between our AI/ML team and business stakeholders.What makes this role special:
You'll combine deep technical expertise with mentorship responsibilities, driving both innovation and team capability development in Australia's leading media organisation.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical LeadershipArchitect and implement scalable AI/ML frameworks and standardsEstablish coding, model development, and deployment best practicesContribute to technical roadmaps and evaluate new AI/ML technologiesLead code reviews to ensure high-quality deliverablesTeam Development & MentorshipMentor team members from graduate to senior levelsConduct workshops, code reviews, and share best practicesSupport career growth and solve complex technical challengesBusiness PartnershipAct as technical liaison for editorial, marketing, product, and tech teamsTranslate AI/ML concepts into clear business insightsIdentify AI/ML opportunities and design solutions aligned with business needsProject & Risk ManagementIdentify risks and improve development processes for efficiencyEnsure robust testing, validation, monitoring, and documentationInnovation & EfficiencyDrive process optimisation and automation in AI/ML workflowsEvaluate new tools and establish performance monitoring metricsWho are you?Essential Requirements6+ years in AI/ML engineering or related fields​Advanced Python skills and experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)Proven experience in diverse AI/ML domains including generative AI, NLP, predictive analytics, recommendation systems, anomaly detection, and multimodal AIHistory of mentoring and leading technical initiativesExtensive Google Cloud Platform expertiseStrong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiencesExcellent problem-solving and process optimisation skillsHighly RegardedGraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or related fieldsMedia/publishing industry experienceMLOps/DevOps skills (CI/CD, containerisation, automated deployment)Data engineering (ETL, large-scale processing)UI/UX development for technical dashboardsOpen source contributions and conference speaking experienceCross-industry AI/ML exposureTechnology StackCloud: Google Cloud (BigQuery, Vertex AI, Cloud Functions, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Storage)ML Frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, OpenAI APIsDevelopment: Python, Git, Docker, CI/CD pipelinesData Processing: Apache Beam, Pandas, NumPy, SparkMonitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud MonitoringInfrastructure as Code: Terraform, Cloud Deployment ManagerNews BenefitsNews Benefits is our way of saying thank you to our people for their valued contribution to News, our audiences, clients and communities.
