Learn more about what Hall & Wilcox can offer you:About the role and teamWe have a unique and exciting opportunity for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our national Property & Projects team. This role will focus mainly on back-end construction matters.Led by partners Alex Hartmann and Stefan Fenk, our Sydney construction team is a close-knit and growing group of 10, forming part of our national Property & Projects team of 120. Known for their friendly and collegiate culture, the team is gaining momentum with a rising profile and expanding client base.Our national Construction has specialist expertise advising on procurement, risk analysis and project structuring, financing and delivery, through to dispute avoidance and resolution across litigation, ADR and adjudication. We act across a broad range of sectors (including infrastructure, renewables commercial, residential, health care, resources and social infrastructure), and advise a wide range of clients (including institutional and private developers, asset owners, contractors, consultants, financiers, hospitals and universities).This role will see you advise private and government clients on a wide range of construction and infrastructure disputes, particularly those arising from the delivery of transport infrastructure, renewables projects, industrial, commercial and residential projects. You will play a key part in managing disputes arising from major infrastructure and development projects.You will be responsible for preparing and responding to payment claims and adjudication applications under the Security of Payment legislation, as well as handling related interlocutory proceedings and ADR processes. Your work will involve advising clients on contract administration, interpreting contractual terms, and navigating complex legislative frameworks. You’ll also contribute to dispute resolution strategies, including mediations and commercial negotiations, with a focus on achieving practical outcomes and minimising litigation risk.About youYou will ideally have the following skills and experience:
  • at least 3 years of post-admission experience in construction litigation and adjudication;
  • experience across back-end construction matters (front-end experience is beneficial but not essential);
  • the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team;
  • excellent technical, analytical ,drafting and project management skills, with keen attention to detail;
  • strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • a strong commitment to client service and the ability to build and manage client relationships;
  • a focus on achieving commercial solutions for our clients;
  • a willingness and ability to mentor and supervise junior members of the team; and
  • the ability to organise and prioritise effectively.
