Position Description – ElectricianLocation: Project Sites (Victoria and New South Wales)
Roster: FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) / DIDO (Drive-In Drive-Out) – Project Based
Reports To: Site Supervisor / Electrical Construction Manager
Business Unit: Tranex Solar – Utility-Scale Solar & BESS ConstructionRole Purpose
The FIFO/DIDO Electrician is responsible for delivering high-quality electrical works on utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role includes installation, testing, and commissioning of DC and AC electrical systems, ensuring compliance with Australian standards, industry regulations, and Tranex Solar’s safety and quality requirements.
The role requires a hands-on tradesperson with strong technical skills, a commitment to safety, and the flexibility to work in remote site environments under FIFO/DIDO arrangements.Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Installation
  • Install, terminate, and test electrical equipment, including PV modules, DC cabling, AC cabling, switchboards, and inverters.
  • Carry out cable tray installation, wiring, earthing, and connections for solar and BESS systems.
  • Undertake DC string testing, insulation resistance testing, and pre-commissioning works.
  • Install and maintain balance-of-plant (BoP) electrical infrastructure including trenching, conduits, pits, and earthing systems.
Commissioning & Maintenance
  • Assist with system commissioning, energisation, and handover testing under supervision of senior electricians/engineers.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and fault-finding during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Support maintenance works and rectification activities on live systems as required.
Safety & Compliance
  • Work in strict accordance with WHS procedures, site rules, and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
  • Ensure all electrical works comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033, etc.) and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date licences, qualifications, and authorisations (e.g., LVR/CPR).
  • Report and address hazards, incidents, and near misses in a timely manner.
Teamwork & Site Operations
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary project team alongside mechanical, civil, and electrical crews.
  • Supervise apprentices, trades assistants, and subcontractor electricians where required.
  • Liaise with supervisors and engineers to ensure quality and productivity targets are met.
  • Support logistical activities including equipment checks, site stores management, and plant coordination.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Practical experience with LV/HV solar farm installations (preferred).
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in remote, high-volume construction environments.
  • Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and technical diagnostic skills.
  • Positive attitude, teamwork focus, and adaptability to rostered remote work.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Current A-Grade (Unrestricted) Electrician’s Licence – recognised in the relevant state/territory (preferably NSW/VIC).
  • Construction White Card (General Construction Induction).
  • Current CPR/LVR certification (must be valid within 12 months).
  • High Risk Work Licence (EWP, Forklift) or Telehandler Ticket – desirable.
  • Working at Heights and Confined Spaces training – desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in large-scale electrical, renewable energy, or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • HV switching experience/licence (highly regarded).
Roster & Conditions
  • FIFO/DIDO roster (project dependent, typically 3:1 or 10:4).
  • LAHA and accommodation provided when on roster.
  • Competitive hourly rate + site uplift + overtime/penalties.
  • PPE and tooling provided as per company policy.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) * All electrical works delivered to specification, on time, and defect-free.
  • Compliance with all WHS and electrical safety standards.
  • Minimal rework or non-conformance issues.
  • Positive contribution to team productivity and site culture.
  • Accurate and timely completion of site paperwork, testing records, and QA documentation.
