You are a qualified and experienced planning professional with substantial experience in development assessment and a demonstrated ability to manage and assess complex development applications in line with relevant planning instruments, policies, and codes. You have a proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide high-level advice on a range of planning and development matters. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you build effective relationships with stakeholders and provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff. You are committed to delivering high-quality planning outcomes that align with Council’s strategic objectives and community needs.The TeamThe Planning team helps shape the region by implementing Council’s Planning Scheme. We actively manage a broad range of stakeholder interests to negotiate appropriate development outcomes. With an emphasis on communication, accountability and transparency, we offer a supportive team environment where you can mentor and be mentored, while dealing with a range of exciting and challenging projects.About the positionThe Senior Planner position is responsible for the control and coordination of development assessment and related services to ensure outcomes are achieved which are in line with Council’s planning objectives, meet stakeholder needs and support the aims of relevant legislation, planning instruments, standards and codes in the interest of the community.
  • This is a fixed term full-time position based in the Toowoomba CBD until June 2028.
  • The annual salary range for this position is $102,286.02 - $109,044.83 gross per annum, plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.

How to be successful in this position
  • A degree in Town Planning, Urban or Regional Planning that can be recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia as equivalent to an Australian university town planning degree, either at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrated substantial experience in assessing and processing complex development applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of town planning principles, instruments, legislation, policy, technical standards and statutory requirements.
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork.
