THE OPPORTUNITYReporting to the Racecourse Manager, this permanent full-time role is responsible for maintaining the course proper, training tracks, and grounds at one of our Racecourses mentioned above, ensuring they are always presented in the best possible condition. This position plays a vital role in the success of our carnival race days and in creating a memorable experience for all who attend.DAY TO DAY, THE ROLE WILL:
  • In this role, you’ll be hands-on with the upkeep and care of our racetracks
  • Undertake general maintenance work including labouring, cleaning, tracks, gardens and maintenance instructions
  • Operate plant equipment such as tractors, mowers, front end loader forklift, power sweepers, power harrows, brush cutters, hedgers, push mowers and general spray operations
  • Conduct routine maintenance of turf, synthetic, artificial and other surfaces
  • Working hours on non-race days: 8:30 – 5:00pm
  • Race day vs non-race day roster. During a race week you will work Tue-Sat, when it’s not a race week the work will be Mon-Fri.
THE RIGHT FITTo be successful in the role, the right fit will have the following experience and capability:
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in turf management is preferred but not required
  • General operational and mechanical maintenance skills;
  • Appropriate licences to operate specialist machinery such as a manual vehicle, front end loader and forklifts preferred but not required
  • Experience in operating plant and equipment including Bobcat, Grader and Excavator would be desirable;
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience of handling and spraying chemicals;
  • A demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Sound verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Enjoy working outdoors
  • A can do attitude
