Job DescriptionThe role of the Senior Building Consultant is to promote and deliver world class forensic consulting services, with emphasis on Building Consulting. Provides causation investigations and reports for building related matters, reinstatement scopes of works, building defect investigations and reports, cost estimating services for failures, damages, or defects within the Consultant’s technical expertise at various residential, industrial, and commercial sites, which may lead to legal activity, including both civil and criminal; potentially assisting a court or other parties to determine the facts of a failure or accident. Analyzes both material and labor costs, building repair, determines the ability to repair, delays in repair, and evaluates the quality of construction or reviews repair or maintenance procedures. As part of this role, the Building Consultant is responsible for the continued elevation of the firm’s market penetration and technical image, both internally and externally, via extensive marketing efforts with client contacts, mentoring of junior consultants and exemplary personal consulting services.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Investigates the origin and cause of failures, damages, or defects in the building fields within residential, commercial, and industrial sites.Participates in catastrophe responses, such as cyclones, tornados, floods, wildland fires, and earthquakes.Performs field investigations, leads multi-party examinations, and documentation of damaged property.Research failure modes and code requirements as needed, prepare recommendations for repair and/or remediation as appropriate.Prepares accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining the cause and origin of the damages to clients. Follows established policies, procedures, and processes in preparing information, exercising sound judgment in applying these to potentially unusual or complicated situations, and submits reports and documents in a timely manner and in accordance with client’s standards and expectations.Provides deposition or expert testimony as a fact or expert witness for product liability cases, civil or federal court cases, and, occasionally, criminal cases. Investigates and may testify in a deposition or courtroom setting, about the cause, extent or source of damages or professional liability.Analyzes the failure of building systems, determines the cause of failures, evaluates the quality of construction or reviews design or maintenance procedures.Maintains established relationships with current clients and consultants.Manages and/or works with multi-disciplinary teams on large and complex assignments ensuring cohesive approach to the investigation while maintaining effective communication across the project team.Understands the services the company can provide and becomes familiar with the various methods used to support client needs. Adapts our services to meet those needs in terms of scope of work, budget, and timing. Has an understand of clients’ needs and specific requirements. Assists with the collection of outstanding invoices, as necessary or instructed.Suggests, participates in, and drives the development of White Papers, webinar content, internal/external articles, blog posts and promotional and educational seminars.Identifies opportunities to utilize junior consultants to assist with development.Interacts regularly with members of the business development, sales and marketing teams and stays abreast of trends in the industry. Participates as necessary in business development and marketing endeavors.Identifies and follows up on opportunities in Building Consultancy, as well as other for other services covered by the company.Develops list of clients to target to expand network.As instructed by Technical Director, assists with mentoring of junior experts including but not limited to performing peer reviews, assisting other experts on their files, and when applicable, bringing junior experts on the projects.Stays abreast of office and company policies, procedures, and practices; participates in ongoing training and development as assigned or approved to assure knowledge and skills remain current and comprehensive.Adheres to all applicable State Insurance Regulation requirements and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards; assumes personal responsibility for maintaining the requisite state license for the state(s) assigned.Performs all other duties as assigned.Required Experience:10 years Building/Construction experience is required.5+ years of experience in Building Consultancy, insurance or related field.Expert witness experience.Required Skills/Abilities:Skills in analyzing, interpreting, synthesizing, prioritizing, and reporting pertinent information, discerning the essential from the non-essential, and grasping complexities of unusual or complicated cases.Exemplary time management and organizational skills, including attention to detail and accuracy to execute tasks and meet deadlines.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Sound written and oral communication skills, problem-solving, influencing, and critical thinking skillsExpertise in Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook) and CRM software.Ability to work in catastrophic environments such as the aftermath of natural disasters, weather events, etc, for at times, an extended period.Safety mindset with the ability to foresee project risks associated with investigations.Commitment to confidentiality and to discretely handle sensitive informationCommitted to being an effective and collaborative team memberThe ability to be an effective and collaborative team member.Commitment to confidentiality and ability to discretely handle sensitive informationAbility to safely operate a motor vehicle in a work capacity.Teamwork, compassion, and respect toward others, in keeping with our 5 Guiding Principles, as well as integrity, accountability, and adherence to standards of ethical behavior and professional conduct, and open and honest communication.Preferred Experience:Experience with residential, commercial, and industrial facilities is desired.Experience working with law firms and insurance companies is a plus.Significant experience as a license contractor is preferred.Experience with Construction systems is preferred.Preferred Skills/Abilities:Dedicated to a tactful and constructive approach in your commitment to coaching team members.Education:Certificate IV in Building and Construction or equivalent.One Company/One Team is not just one of our 5 Guiding Principles, it’s we how separate ourselves from our competitors.
