The roles involve providing General Insurance clients with legal advice on medical indemnity, health law litigation, and related inquiries.You can expect to be involved in:
  • Managing medical negligence litigation as part of a team including attending formal mediations and informal settlement conferences
  • Managing Coronial inquiries and disciplinary proceedings as against health entities and individual practitioners
  • Providing advice to insurers on cover, predominantly professional indemnity and medical indemnity insurance
  • Reviewing medical and health records
  • Preparing briefs for Counsel and expert witnesses
  • Drafting court documents, settlement deeds and Medical Panel referrals
  • Preparing advice including on indemnity, liability, prospects, quantum, reserves and strategy
  • Researching and providing legal analysis
  • Assisting with preparation and presenting on matters related to medical indemnity and health law litigation.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior lawyers, graduates and seasonal clerks
  • Retaining and building business
About You
  • Suitable candidates will bring 3+ years PAE in medical or health law litigation
  • Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for relevant jurisdiction
  • The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as effective stakeholder management abilities
  • Suitable candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships, leading to effective client service and successful outcomes
  • Strong critical reasoning and investigative skills with the ability to think laterally
  • Highly organised, able to plan and prioritise work to meet key deliverables
  • Demonstrate proficiency in conducting presentations and meetings with groups of varying sizes
  • Identifies risks and complies with group risk management protocol
  • A willingness and ability to learn and develop new skills
  • The ability to resolve problems and determine when escalation is necessary
  • A professional, client focused and ethical approach
  • A resilient nature with the ability to remain calm under pressure
