Why not discover where we can go?Job DescriptionThe Business Development Manager is responsible for the effective coordination and delivery of new strategic alliance partnerships that enable the achievement of joint strategic and financial objectives for the Alliances team and those Partners. By actively supporting the Head of Alliances Business Development the Business Development Manager will drive effective management of new opportunities through the various stages of the Business development process, ensuring communication of progress, development of operating models, product development, delivery of technology and any associated processes and procedures, operating rhythms and governance regimes are delivered seamlessly, so as to ensure clarity, visibility and delivery of agreed customer and commercial objectives. Post launch of new partnerships the Business Development Manager will have primary responsibility for the success of the program, overseeing each element of the partnership and the performance of each parties' roles and responsibilities to achieve the long term success of the partnership.QualificationsBusiness Development
  • Work with Prospective Alliance Partners, the Head of Alliances Business Development and other TAL Senior Leaders to effectively manage a pipeline of new opportunities through the business development process, ensuring effective communication internally and externally throughout.
  • Work with key internal stakeholders such as Commercial, Product, Pricing, Legal, Technology and Marketing teams to ensure the development of effective insurance distribution models and propositions for each prospect, flexing those models as appropriate to ensure compliance with regulatory and commercial requirements.
  • Perform discovery and opportunity assessment on prospective partnerships to a high standard, including development of commercial and contractual materials. Pro-actively drive the opportunity assessment process and take ownership for business development outcomes in the early and subsequent stages of new solution development and new alliance partner relationships
  • Work with key internal stakeholders and any external providers necessary to ensure business readiness to deliver on the objectives of new partnerships managing new partner launches through the project management process of standing up a new partner.
  • Run the contractual process with new prospects from NDA through Distribution Agreement ensuring sound commercial, legal and regulatory disciplines are maintained throughout and this process eventuates in comprehensive legal agreements that deliver on the objectives of all partiesStrategic Account Management
  • Develop a deep understanding of assigned portfolio of partners and their centres of influence/stakeholders
  • Drive clarity internally and within each partnership on the joint objectives of the partnership
  • Develop and maintain a strong market presence for TAL with prospective, new, and existing partners, actively promoting and reinforcing TAL's capabilities and growth ambitions at industry and partner events.
  • Proactively guide any product feedback and proposition development work to drive improved program/partner/customer outcomes. Ensuring that distribution effectiveness and TAL's product performance and development processes operate in balance.
  • Ensure the distribution readiness of all partner channels including facilitating awareness of the program across the partners organisation, overseeing any training or regulatory requirements for partner distribution activities are in place.
  • Design and implement any supporting campaign capability necessary to deliver the program, including an effective lead nurture and upgrade model.
  • Manage the marketing/distribution program for new partners, optimise and flex the program to deliver on program goals. Drive creative solutions to challenges and effectively manage partner and internal engagement throughout.
Demonstrable experience in developing new direct life partnerships, applying strategic business development and account management competencies in building and maintaining effective working relationships with prospects/partners and developing new technology and service provider relationships.

  • Critical reasoning and analytical skills, commercial acumen
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proven project management and delivery skills. Proven experience delivering quality outcomes on multiple tasks and projects within budget and planned timeframes.
  • Demonstrable strength in strategic thinking
  • Deep understanding of Australian insurance market and regulatory frameworks
  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in a finance or business-related field
