The Education and Youth Justice Caseworker provides intensive casework support, intervention, and referral services for young people who experience disengagement, poor school attendance, and are currently in contact with juvenile justice system, police, and/or family intervention services.Primary accountabilities of the role of Caseworker include, but are not limited to:
- Providing effective casework support.
- Making informed decisions and initiating actions in collaboration with the client.
- Working collectively with Youth Justice stakeholders.
- Monitoring case compliance with requirements of funding bodies.
- Liaising with relevant family, community, and social services as needed.
- Engaging directly and cooperatively in informal and formal school environments and building positive relationships with young people.
- Contributing to program reporting.
- Certificate IV, Diploma, or Degree in social work, community services, or a related field focused on community development and engagement.
- Additional studies or experience in trauma-informed care and casework is an advantage.
- Aboriginal studies or experience working with Aboriginal communities is highly regarded.
- Experience in a similar case management role (minimum 2 years).
- Experience working with young people who display risk taking behaviours.
- Experience working with young people who have experience Youth Justice involvement.
- Proven experience working with young people aged 12-18 who have experienced complex life transitions
- Comprehensive knowledge of foster care conditions and understanding of child protection principles.
- Ability to work well within established formal or contractual arrangements.
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- High interpersonal skills and ability to self-reflect.
- Skills in managing children/young people with challenging behaviours and complex needs.
- Sound computer literacy skills.
- Empathy and cultural competency to work sensitively and contribute to an inclusive environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- NSW Legal and Education systems
- Local knowledge of, and involvement in, the Western Sydney community
- Knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Clear National Criminal History Check.
- Unrestricted NSW driver's licence.
- Eligibility to work in Australia.
- Provide M180 consent to complete a verification of the Residential Care Workers Register managed by the Office of the Children's Guardian.
