GATES HAULAGE is looking for Diesel Motor Mechanics for their site located in Gerringong on the NSW South Coast.

Gates Haulage, trading under Gates Contracting Services Pty Ltd (ABN 85 600 316 603), is a proudly Australian‑owned, family-run transport and logistics company based in Gerringong, NSW. Established in 1971 by brothers Bryan and Stan Gates—starting with just one truck—they’ve grown over four decades into a fleet of around 50 trucks and more than 150 pieces of plant and equipment, staffing approximately 50 employees.

Specialising in bulk transport, raw material supply, and industrial recycling and waste disposal across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and South Australia, they operate 24/7 and uphold high standards in safety, compliance, and environmental management including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and AS 4801

To be considered for the role you need to have a relevant industry qualification or at least 3 years' experience in a similar position.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles
  • Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and parts
  • Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts
  • Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, and referring to service manuals as needed
  • Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations
  • Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired
  • Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance
  • Diagnosing and testing parts with the assistance of computers
  • Familiar with hydraulic systems
  • May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or detail work required to achieve roadworthiness
  • Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls
  • Truck or heavy vehicle licence highly desirable
  • Experience with hydraulics and earthmoving equipment highly desirable
