Vickery Bros are currently looking to recruit a qualified and experience Fertilizer Spreader Operator to join their team in Coleraine VIC.
The spreader operator's role involves the safe, accurate and efficient application of fertilizer in a truck-based spreader and other materials on farm using specialized equipment and can perform work within other areas of the business during non-peak times (i.e. workshop, maintenance).
The Key Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:
- Loading, calibrating and operating truck-based spreaders.
- Operating and maintaining front end loader and float.
- Ensuring the safe and efficient application of fertilizer or other materials, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Performing routine maintenance tasks on the spreader, including cleaning, checking for wear and tears, and ensuring the workshop makes any necessary repairs.
- Uphold the standards for all operations (including if working in the workshop or other areas of the business as directed) and undertake them in a safe, efficient, cost effective and professional manner.
- Maintaining accurate records of fertilizer application, including dates, locations, and types of materials used.
- Adhering to instructions from supervisors or farm managers regarding fertilizer application rates, timing and methods.
- Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, gloves, and dust masks, and following all relevant safety regulations and procedures.
- Being aware of potential hazards associated with fertilizer handling and application; including reporting hazards, near misses and incidents.
- Identifying and addressing any issues or problems that may arise during fertilizer application, such as equipment malfunctions or uneven distribution.
- Communicating effectively with other farm workers and supervisors, providing updates on progress and any issues that may arise.
- Understanding the principles of fertilizer application, including the types of fertilizers, application rates, and timing, to ensure optimal crop growth.
Qualifications and Training:
- Heavy Rigid Driver License if driving a 4X4 spreader
- Heavy Rigid Drier License if driving a 6X6 spreader truck with a trailer with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) not more than 9 tons
- Heavy Combination Driver License – driving spread truck towing front end loader and Ute on float
- Fert care Handling Training (to be completed after 6 months on the job)
Experience and Skills and personal attributes:
- Experience operating agricultural machinery, particularly fertilizer spreaders.
- Knowledge of different types of fertilizers and their application rates.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to communicate positively and effectively with co-workers with professionalism and discretion
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure in a calm and methodical manner
- Ability to take directions from supervisors
Salary range is $65,000 - $80,000pa commensurate with experience
