Locum Anaesthetists for On-Call Work (Private Hospital | Mornington Peninsula)We are partnering with a major private hospital in the Mornington Peninsula (300+ beds) to help them establish a Contingent Anaesthetics On-Call Roster, with services commencing from 1st October 2025.
This is a flexible opportunity for anaesthetists interested in picking up overnight, emergency-only work, with the ability to plan shifts well in advance.Shift Details:
  • Monday to Thursday: 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM (12 hours)
  • Weekends (Friday 6:00 PM to Monday 6:00 AM): 24-hour blocks
  • Slight flexibility around start times to accommodate any daytime list overruns. Daytime anaesthetics service will cover any delays.
Location & Accommodation:
  • Anaesthetists must be in South East Melbourne or nearby.
  • Accommodation can be arranged if required.
Coverage Responsibilities:
  • Emergency Anaesthetics Only for: Orthopaedics, Plastics, Urology, and General Surgery.
  • Obstetrics and Cardio-Thoracic have their own rosters.
  • On average, call-ins occur once every six nights.
  • Weekend day lists may include urgent cases (typically 2–7) which cannot be delayed until Monday.
  • Doctors retain full billings for these cases.
Hospital Support:
  • The hospital is fully equipped with a 24/7 ICU and ED.
  • Emergency Department manages the majority of overnight presentations – anaesthetists will never be expected to operate unsupported.
  • This is purely a contingency service and will not be used to backfill daytime rosters.
Remuneration:
  • Midweek (12-hour shift): $1,500
  • Weekend (24-hour shift): $3,000
In addition to the above, doctors retain their own billings. While this may be minimal midweek, there is potential upside for weekend coverage where urgent lists are run.Next Steps:We are currently gathering Expressions of Interest from anaesthetists who would like to be considered for this roster.
