About the opportunityThe Project and Contract Manager (Senior Management Accountant ) role is responsible for providing hands on commercial management accounting support and services across Central Operations Services (COS) and in liaison with the central Finance team. The role supports management reporting and the overall accuracy of divisional financial reporting to accurately record the accounts, drive insights and support effective decision making.The COS management accounting team delivers accounts processing, complex reconciliations, monthly accruals, and ad hoc project reporting, as well as sound financial analysis. They provide advice to senior leaders to inform periodic financial planning, budgeting, costing, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting. The role will provide support and guidance on complex financial issues, ensure effective support of operations via financial reporting and insights, and identify opportunities to continuously improve team performance as well as build team capability that is aligned to current and future client needs and service delivery requirements.Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • enable critical decisions through timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis
  • collect, review, and interpret financial information relevant to COS core activities, projects and initiatives
  • ensure the effective integration of the Archibus (work flow Management System) and ARIBA sub-ledger accounts and procure to pay systems with both the ERP Finance system, and operations management processes
  • identify financial requirements and issues, align proactive financial solutions/reports, and coordinate the allocation of financial resources to deliver high quality advice and services
  • management of BU accounting and reporting software policy and procedures
  • ensure the consistent implementation of best practice for financial reporting/auditing/ procurement through a variety of means including benchmarking, business process improvement and automation, participation on projects aimed at process improvements, and customer feedback
  • support bespoke accounting and reporting needs of projects and business case development within COS, and for partner functions
  • support the development of high quality analytical and visualization insights on COS teams and programs, and support the Analytics and Visualization team in the development of analytics, metrics, and dashboards
  • provide overall leadership to the management accounting team, as well as effective liaison and collaboration with the central Finance team
  • ensure the Accounting Team is complying with the University financial standards and policy
  • lead your team in the delivery of excellent customer service
  • ensure that customer expectations are met and/or managed, by using appropriate management tools to coordinate and guide your team in the delivery of SE&I services.
About you
  • university qualifications in Accounting or Business Administration as well as equivalent combination of relevant training and experience (8+ years)
  • CA or CPA qualifications are required
  • experience in financial and management accounting, including gathering and analysing data, complex reconciliations, designing and maintaining reports, and presenting findings to stakeholders
  • relevant experience in management accounting and the use of ERP accounting applications/systems, with experience in Archibus and Ariba Procure to Pay systems desirable
  • experience in working in property management, facilities services, construction, or infrastructure management well regarded
  • excellent internal stakeholder and consulting skills, with an ability to analyse problems and issues, conduct research and analysis, develop alternative recommendations and solutions, and lead business case development
  • exceptional ability to drive/present insights from financial data that supports leaders in their decision making and management practices
  • experience in delivering business value by creating excellent financial reporting products, with high quality of visualisation in relation to presentation of data
  • demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, evaluate and adapt strategic initiatives in a changing higher education and industry environment
  • sound judgement, accuracy, and attention to detail. Ability to identify risks, troubleshoot resolution and influence Leadership and Stakeholder with researched recommendations.
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills, a highly collaborative approach to problem solving, and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
  • strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills together with effective leadership and people management skills
  • demonstrated experience in the leadership, supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff.
