Yilgarn Iron Investments is a privately owned mining company restarting a portfolio of historic iron ore assets in Western Australia’s Yilgarn region — including Koolyanobbing, Windarling, and Parker Range. With tenement activity spanning decades, the project includes areas of active mining, legacy disturbance, and new exploration — all requiring site-based, practical environmental management across approvals, compliance, monitoring, and rehab.About the Role
We’re seeking a capable Environmental Advisor to work across exploration programs, active mining operations, and progressive rehabilitation. You’ll be the on-site environmental point of contact — responsible for monitoring, reporting, compliance tracking, and support for approvals processes, with a strong focus on native vegetation, flora and fauna, and disturbance management.
This role suits someone who’s confident being out in the field, talking with drill crews one day and assessing landform stability or vegetation condition the next. You’ll work closely with the environmental lead, approvals consultants, Traditional Owners, and the site team to ensure compliance obligations are met — practically and proactively.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct scheduled and ad hoc environmental monitoring across exploration, mining and rehab areas — including dust, water, fauna observations, and vegetation conditionMonitor and track native vegetation clearing, ensuring compliance with permits and boundary controlsSupport flora and fauna management, including recording sightings, weed identification/control, and feral animal trackingContribute to the maintenance of environmental registers, compliance obligations, and internal databasesAssist with clearing permit applications (Native Vegetation Clearing Permits, Programme of Work submissions), liaising with approvals consultants and government bodies as requiredParticipate in heritage coordination, including mapping, access control, and clearance supportSupport rehabilitation inspections — erosion, landform stability, species regrowth and photo monitoringContribute to environmental inductions and toolbox content for site teams and contractorsWhat We’re Looking For3–5 years’ experience in a site-based environmental role within mining, exploration, or civil constructionFamiliarity with WA environmental legislation, including Part IV/V, MCPs, NVCPs and PoW processesStrong field-based skillset — confident identifying vegetation, tracking fauna, and monitoring ground disturbanceExperience supporting clearing compliance and rehab performance trackingComfortable working closely with operational teams and Traditional Owner representativesTertiary qualifications in environmental science, botany, land management or similarManual WA C-Class Driver’s LicenceBasic GIS/GPS use or mapping skills advantageous
