- Effective management of the Finance Team ensuring staff are appropriately supervised and encouraged to develop their technical skills and improve engagement;
- Ensure month end tasks are completed inline with agreed deadlines and all accounts are reconciled correctly.
- Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger across the Group.
- Ensuring Finance Team understand and implement timely lodgement of statutory requirements such as tax (Australia & New Zealand), ASIC, NZ Companies Office, APRA, Payment Times Reporting and IATA;
- Drive financial control across the Capricorn Group working with business partners to ensure all process improvements from a financial point of view are actioned.
- Support the Group treasury and investment functions, ensuring appropriate controls are in force and investments made in accordance with the investment policy;
- Oversee investment reporting prepared by the Corporate Accountant and provide to the Head of Investments for presentation to the Board and Capricorn Investment Committee;
- Ensure effective cash flow management to enable member acquisitions circa $200M per month;
- Work with the Head of Finance - Corporate to evaluate structure funding for potential investments/acquisitions as part of Group strategy development.
- Support the Group budget process ensuring overall targets are met and maintained while liaising with all cost centre managers and the Executive Leadership Team during the budget process.
- Oversee cost centre managers forecast projections and incorporate into Anaplan reporting tool.
- Facilitate the relationship between Capricorn and external tax and financial audit firms;
- Manage the Group tax compliance function adhering to all obligations;
- Responsible and accountable for the efficient audit of Group accounts while seeking improvement of the end to end process;
- Ownership of the preparation of the Group Annual Report, statutory reports and income tax returns;
- Advise the Head of Finance - Corporate of any tax or financial audit matters affecting the Group;
- Prepare audit reports for the audit and risk committee and action outcomes as required.
- Maintain the Finance Department risk register and work with the business to mitigate risks up and down stream of the Finance Department;
- Oversee Financial Controls for the Capricorn group of companies;
- Maintain and update Finance Department policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparation of Finance department Board and Audit and Risk Committee papers;
- Assist the Head of Finance - Corporate and Group CFO with ad hoc papers as required.
- Continually challenge own processes to identify and implement system and process efficiencies to achieve time savings and improve the control environment;
- Contribute to process streamlining and automation of high touch banking functions.
- Advanced knowledge of statutory reporting and income tax legislation;
- Strong financial acumen to interpret and apply key financial indicators to make better business decisions;
- Exposure to New Zealand accounting and tax regime would be advantageous, but not essential;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel and experience in ERP and FP&A systems.
- 5 years post qualification experience in similar role;
- Previous team management desirable.
- CA/CPA qualified.
- Commerce/Business degree.
