This medium-large metropolitan Emergency Department, located within a general hospital, is undergoing an exciting period of growth, including the integration of care models with a larger territory facility and early planning for a new Hospital.
The department sees approximately 62,500 patients annually, with around 15% paediatric presentations.
Flexible and innovative rostering is in place, and there are opportunities for FACEMs to contribute to the Regional Aeromedical Retrieval Service and collaborate with the Australian National University.
The department features an innovative staffing model, including CMOs, Nurse Practitioners, and Advanced Practice Physiotherapists. A 270-bed Level 4 public hospital now operated by a government health service provider offers a wide range of acute and sub-acute care, including community-based services for surrounding regions. The facility includes a 24-hour Emergency Department and inpatient units covering general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health, and critical care. Additional services include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home, and a Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that extends support into aged care facilities.A new, state-of-the-art hospital is planned for development on the existing site, promising expanded capacity and enhanced services. In the meantime, the current hospital continues to deliver high-quality care to patients and the broader community.Location
