Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Mining Engineer for our Capcoal Surface Operation, an open cut coal mine utilising draglines, shovels, excavators and associated ancillary equipment to produce approximately 5mtpa from three dynamic coal seams.As the Mining Engineer, you will report to the Technical Services Superintendent and will be responsible for delivering best practice mining engineering services and support to our fleet of 2 x Draglines. Our Mining Engineers are specialists in the development and implementation of short to medium term (up to 18 month) mining strategies and mine plans - with recent approval for mine expansion, this is a very exciting time to join the team!You will leverage your experience as well as your knowledge in mine scheduling software to optimise and deliver achievable mine plans. With the support of the Dragline planning team, you will actively engage with the production team to communicate mine plans and schedules to ensure that the production processes are optimised to continuously increase the operational efficiency.QualificationsWe are seeking a tertiary qualified Mining Engineer with at least 3 years post graduate experience gained in an open cut environment.To be successful in the role, desirable experience and attributes include:
- Short to medium term design, planning and / or scheduling within an open cut operation.
- Dragline experience.
- Experience in driving best practices through your department and into the business.
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes.
- Track record in driving continuous improvement.
- Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exposure to DESWIK highly desirable, SPRY, Vulcan, MINEX, SAP and/or mining/blasting software will be highly regarded.
- This is a full-time, permanent role
- Monday to Friday roster with potential of going 8/6
- This role is suitable for FIFO, DIDO and residential lifestyle options, with subsided accommodation in Middlemount
