
Financial Accountant / Controller

The successful candidate will be a seasoned contractor, confident in financial control and process improvement, and ready to support a finance team through a period of transformation and system change.About the Role This is a hands-on position requiring a strong understanding of core accounting functions, compliance, and reporting. You’ll be responsible for supporting and improving financial processes as the business prepares to integrate with broader corporate systems. You will report into a Finance Manager or Financial Controller (TBC), and work closely with a committed finance team in a supportive environment.Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy of the trial balance
- Complete and resolve all monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Perform cash forecasting and contribute to process improvements and WIP turn
- Consolidate monthly results including elimination entries
- Maintain the debtors ledger with focus on doubtful debts and retentions
- Conduct fixed asset accounting and monthly reporting
- Support compliant payroll processing aligned with legislation and agreements
- Review and enhance internal financial controls
- Align purchase order practices with corporate standards ahead of system migration in March 2026
- Assist with legal entity consolidation and documentation in preparation for systems integration
- Support the rollout and training of corporate financial standards and expenditure policies
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure clean and auditable documentation
- Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or Financial Controller, ideally within large or complex environments
- Strong background in financial control, compliance, and reconciliation
- Hands-on, process-driven approach and a willingness to assist across a variety of finance functions
- Experience managing or resolving debtors, retentions, and supporting payroll processing
- Ability to work within a multi-entity environment and support light consolidations
- Contracting experience is highly regarded – we’re looking for someone reliable and ready to hit the ground running
- Contract Duration: 3 months with possible extension pending project approval to April 2026
- Rate:$80–$120 per hour + super (depending on experience)
- Location: Pinkenba, QLD (on-site presence preferred 3–4 days per week)
- Start: As soon as possible
- Hours: Standard 38-hour week, usual start between 8–9am
