
Indirect Tax Accountant

- Assist with GST compliance for the HNHL GST Group and various joint venture investments including BAS, IAS and PAYG.
- Preparation of FBT returns for the HNHL group and maintenance of processes and checklists ensuring compliance with FBT legislation.
- Maintain accounting and tax records to support the HNHL Franchisor's Office in monitoring and evaluating Franchisee business, including liaising with the external Tax Agents of Franchisees, to assist with their compliance activities.
- Reconcile BAS payments and refunds for Franchisor Reports of franchised complexes and liaise with Administration Managers to recommend resolutions for any discrepancies.
- Maintain and register Australian Business Numbers for all members of the HNHL Group.
- Assist the Indirect Tax Manager with providing ad-hoc indirect tax advice, including GST implications affecting new business initiatives, system upgrades, and new and proposed transactions.
- Report and reconcile PAYG accounts, analyse payroll reports received from the external payroll bureau, and perform monthly payroll tax calculations and annual reconciliations.
- Assist the Indirect Tax Manager in ensuring Indirect Tax policies and procedures align with Harvey Norman's Tax Framework.
- Assist with ATO and State Revenue reviews related to GST and payroll taxes.
- Liaise with the ATO as required.
- Assist the financial reporting team during peak seasons (December half-year and June full year) by preparing work papers for consolidated financial statements and note disclosures.
- Stay informed on current indirect tax related news, including legislative changes and regulatory statements.
- Strong and effective communication skills - written and verbal.
- Experience in taxation, with a preference for indirect tax (not mandatory).
- A solid understanding of accounting principles.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong job ownership and self-motivation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA ERP system is preferred.
