
Principal Project Officer - Inclusive Design

- Although not mandatory, qualifications and/or experience in education, infrastructure planning, architecture/design, public policy, or human-centred design will be highly regarded.
- A demonstrated interest in the domain of building and infrastructure, alongside a foundational understanding of relevant design standards, codes, legislation and policy.
- Prior experience in public sector or government project/program management, ideally in education or built environment contexts.
- Confidence in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, PowerBi and Microsoft Teams, and experience with the Department of Education Content Manager (or similar records management tools) would also be highly regarded.
- Basic data collection and analysis skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- A track record of producing well-structured reports, briefing notes, minutes, and other forms of correspondence.
- Proven experience in effectively liaising with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Lead the research, design and delivery of a fit-for-purpose inclusive infrastructure design framework.
- Provide strategic analysis and expert advice to shape inclusive design policy across planning, asset and education contexts.
- Plan and deliver targeted engagement and co-design activities with diverse stakeholders.
- Translate insights and evidence into actionable principles, guidance, and project-ready tools.
- Manage project milestones, risks, reporting and dependencies to ensure on-time delivery within the 18-month term.
- Prepare high-quality briefing notes, reports, visual frameworks and presentations for executive audiences.
- Collaborate across infrastructure, policy, and education functions to influence enduring systems change.
- Identify and scope pilot initiatives or demonstration projects that apply inclusive design principles in practice.
- High-level understanding of inclusive design, universal design, accessibility and equity in education or infrastructure settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work strategically and pragmatically to deliver policy and project outcomes in complex environments
- Strong engagement and co-design skills, with experience working with diverse and underrepresented groups.
- Proven ability to manage projects, work independently, and deliver quality outputs within fixed timeframes.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable advice.
- Collaborative and adaptive, with a strong, outcomes focus.
