The HR Consultant plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality human resource advice, services, and solutions across the Department for Correctional Services (the Department). Working closely with managers, supervisors, and employees, this role ensures compliance with HR policies, procedures, and legislation while supporting a positive workplace culture.In addition to general HR functions, you will lead State-wide Recruitment for Correctional Officers (CO) and Correctional Industry Officers (CIO) — an opportunity to shape recruitment strategies, strengthen workforce capability, and contribute to South Australia’s correctional system.About us
The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and sixteen Community Correctional offices across the state.Our Strategic Focus is:

- Engage in recruitment activities across the state, including travel to regional locations.
- Provide timely, accurate HR advice across workforce management functions.
- Ensure HR practices comply with policies, legislation, and enterprise agreements.
- Develop, review, and implement HR policies, procedures, and systems.
- Analyse HR trends, prepare reports, and provide recommendations to senior management.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across all business units.
- Participate in recruitment and selection for corporate roles.
- Undertake HR projects, research, and other duties as required.
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for CO and CIO positions, including application processing, assessments, and interview panel coordination.
- Develop and implement candidate attraction strategies to build a diverse talent pool.
- Prepare employment contracts and maintain recruitment databases.
- Represent the Department at employment expos and information sessions.
- Liaise with recruitment agencies to expand candidate reach.
- Provide data-driven reporting on recruitment outcomes.
- Travel to regional locations such as Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, and Cadell.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of recruitment processes.
- Proven experience in recruitment and HR advisory roles within the public sector or similar complex environment.
- Strong knowledge of HR policies, legislation, and enterprise agreements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare clear reports and briefings.
- High-level organisational skills to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in HR documentation and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.

- Desirable: Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Human Resource Management or a related discipline.
