We're seeking a Senior Communications and Engagement Officer to support the delivery of strategic communication and engagement initiatives across a local government authority in Northern Australia.Location: Townsville City
Salary: $62.32 + super
Duration: 6 month assignmentKey Responsibilities

Develop and implement engagement strategies and plans aligned with the IAP2 framework
Provide tactical advice and support to internal departments to meet engagement needs
Identify and manage sensitive issues and recommend appropriate strategies
Deliver timely, high-quality engagement materials and support cross-functional collaboration
Foster strong stakeholder relationships to support effective communication and engagement outcomes
Promote a positive engagement culture across Council

About You

Tertiary qualifications in Communications or a related field OR at least five years’ experience in a similar role
IAP2 Certification in Engagement
Proven ability to deliver communications and engagement campaigns for complex projects
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience handling sensitive issues and providing clear, strategic responses
Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects within tight timeframes
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online engagement tools (e.g., Engagement HQ, Engagement Hub)
Hold a current “C” class driver’s licence
