Toolijooa Nursery specialises in the collection & propagation of provenance native seed & cuttings throughout the Sydney Basin & beyond.As part of a nursery restructure, we are seeking a Propagation Lead to work closely with and under the direction of the Nursery Manager. This key role will involve leading propagation activities, supporting and supervising staff, and ensuring production KPIs are achieved.We are looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude, strong time management and leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous learning. Effective communication and a hands-on approach will be essential to support the Nursery Manager in achieving production outcomes.About the Role:As the Propagation Lead, you will play a central role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the nursery. This is a hands-on position with a focus on plant production, quality outcomes, and meeting productivity and production targets that contribute to the overall success of our business.Key Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing and directing plant propagation activities, including direct sowing, seed flats, potting and seeking continued learning and knowledge.
  • Assist in the supervision and performance management of nursery staff to achieve production outcomes.
  • Assist in all aspects of nursery operations as required.
  • Operate and maintain nursery equipment and tools as required.
  • Assist in irrigation as required in the prop houses and shade house.
  • Maintain nursery cleanliness, organisation, and safety standards.
  • Support inventory management and stock control.
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively through effective communication and management of the team to meet production targets.
About You:
  • Proven experience in managing plant propagation processes.
  • Practical knowledge of plant care and maintenance.
  • Ability to work outdoors and undertake physical tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality outcomes.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Staff management and team management experience
  • Ability to safely operate machinery and tools.
  • Relevant qualifications in horticulture

  • Minimum of 4 years production and nursery experience.
  • TAFE qualification with a minimum of Certificate III Nursery Operations, Management/Horticulture
  • A genuine interest in horticulture.
  • 5 day a week availability.
