designed to reduce your taxable income!About the Role:As a Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee at the Calvary Mater Newcastle, you are a member of one of the largest Oncology units in New South Wales. This role will support exemplary patient care, with a particular focus on outpatient Medical Oncology services, safe chemotherapy prescribing and acute Oncology.The role is accredited for Core Training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.The unit has a robust education program comprising:
  • Weekly Medical Oncology Journal Club.
  • Weekly Friday Oncology Grand Rounds.
  • Weekly Medical Oncology Research meetings (Trials).
  • Monthly Patient Clinical Care Review.
  • There are 11 regular MDTs with the expectation to be present in those pertaining to their consultants.
  • Dedicated one-hour weekly teaching by consultants as well as dedicated RACP research project meetings.
There is extra training support with funding to attend National and International Oncology conferences. The unit has a track record in research with trainees expected to be involved in multiple projects through our close collaboration with the University of Newcastle and the Hunter Medical Research Institute.Key Responsibilities

  • Effective teamwork and ability to function within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining harmonious relations with hospital staff in a respectful and non-confrontational manner.
What you bring
  • Qualifications: MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Completion of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians written and clinical examinations and the requirements of PREP Basic Training or equivalent (completed or working towards)
  • Clinical - Basic clinical experience as a medical officer. The Trainee is expected to pursue excellence in patient care and has overriding responsibility to serve the health care needs of the community served by the Department of Medical Oncology, predominantly focused on outpatient care.
  • Interest and/or experience in research studies and teaching. Advanced Trainees will be required to coordinate and conduct some ongoing clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
