Westmead HospitalFixed Term (12 months) 0.8 FTE Postgraduate Fellow – Rhinology/ General ENTDepartment of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck SurgeryApplications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery (OHNS/ ENT).Successful applicants will:
  • Hold FRACS-OHNS (Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery) or equivalent.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in:
1. Sub-specialty Rhinology/ Anterior Skull Base (Demonstrated through evidence of training, experience, logbooks, courses, publications, presentations, referee/supervisor reports).2. Research (Demonstrated through evidence of publications, presentations and preferably, a higher degree by research (partial or completed)).3. Teaching undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees/residents/registrars.
  • Provide Logbook evidence of a sufficient quantity and quality of relevant operative cases, including cases performed with limited supervision.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.The position will be for the period of 12 months from 10 July 2026 to 09 July 2027.Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.Essential Requirements1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.2. Sound clinical knowledge in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position3. Demonstrated interest in Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base surgery.Selection Criteria1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
  • Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
  • Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
  • Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.5.
