- Manage the safety, performance and responsiveness of the workshop.
- Independently perform key workshop tasks including; drilling, milling, turning, grinding, welding, metal fabrication, as well as general repair and maintenance of mechanical systems (including pneumatic and hydraulic) and laboratory systems.
- Perform maintenance and servicing of equipment in the TGA’s laboratories requiring mechanical attention.
- Design and build test equipment, or manage procurement of custom-made equipment.
- Provide accurate, expert advice on technical matters relating to the functions of the workshop to the TGA.
- Manage complex internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve work area and agency goals, including working harmoniously with peers across the TGA. Manage complex communication with these stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of job risks, job design, and job status.
- Apply specialist technical knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making and priority setting.
- Maintain practices and procedures consistent with internal quality systems and WHS requirements. This includes maintaining associated documentation such as risk assessments and managing WHS in a potentially high-risk environment.
- Read and develop technical drawings when designing and fabricating general systems.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with branch members and actively participate in team work and group activities.
- Work in line with APS values and code of conduct.
- Flexibly contribute to team goals and broader organisation objectives by undertaking other tasks as required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage the safety, performance and responsiveness of a workshop.
- Demonstrated ability to perform workshop activities including
- Drilling
- Milling
- Turning (lathe)
- Grinding (cutting, polishing and deburring)
- Welding (MIG, TIG, MMA)
- Metal fabrication (bending, rolling and cutting)
- Shift heavy loads via gantry crane (competency TILD3043A)
- Forklift operation
- General repairs of mechanical systems
- Use of pressure measurement equipment (Bourdon tube gauges, digital pressure gauges etc)
- General service of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Read technical drawings
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in complex environments with a range of stakeholders who have individual needs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage safety and regulatory requirements.
- High level knowledge in machining and fabricating of laboratory test equipment.
- Ability to operate workshop equipment including forklift, as well as laboratory measurement devices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a workshop which services a laboratory.
- Experience manufacturing products to meet specific standards, or other experience relevant to working in a regulatory environment.
- An understanding of how laboratory testing can be used to assess the quality, safety and performance of therapeutic goods, or an ability to develop an understanding of this.
- Experience completing Tag and Test to AS3760.
- HVAC and refrigeration repair experience.
- A mechanical trade qualification or Degree or Associate Diploma in Engineering, or related qualification.
