About the RoleThis position is based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre, Ravenhall.The role of the Senior Occupational Therapist is to plan, implement, evaluate, and document Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions, and to provide therapeutic support to persons that have been referred to the Forensicare outpatients team.The position will encompass facilitation of both formal and informal activities designed to develop and maintain a range of social skills and self-management techniques that support step-down care from the management unit.As the Senior Occupational Therapist you will:
  • Work with individuals to reduce engagement in criminogenic occupations, minimise the presence of occupational risk factors, and the need for restrictive interventions, behaviours and environments by promoting occupational frameworks.
  • Take a leading role within the clinical team on occupational performance issues, functional skill development, and in promoting engagement in meaningful occupations.
  • Contribute to positive consumer outcomes through the use of Occupational Therapy specific assessment and intervention.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service strategic plan.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies to ensure the ongoing development of Occupational Therapy services.
  • Consult with patients, carers, key agencies and the clinical team to prepare and implement individual rehabilitation programs that remain occupationally focussed, harness motivation and balance short- and long-term perspectives.
About You:
  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists and current registration with AHPRA.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and a commitment to working in a manner consistent with the code.
  • Highly developed skills in the forensic mental health field, knowledge and understanding of the needs of mentally ill people and of the issues of care delivery in forensic mental health.
  • Solid conceptual understanding of the theories of occupational performance including the Model of Human Occupation and be committed to understanding and improving consumer functioning through formal assessment and treatment using recognised Occupational Therapy models of intervention.
