Every Patient Matters.Job DescriptionThe Health Information Services (HIS) department is seeking a highly motivated, organised and efficient person to join our HIS Coding Assistant Team on a permanent part time (24 hours per week) basis.In this role you will provide administrative support to Health Information Managers and Clinical Coders in obtaining documentation required for clinical coding. You will be sending requests to medical staff for further clinical documentation such as clinical coding queries, discharge summaries and typed reports. You will also liaise with wards and clinical areas for the missing medical record notes.You will make an impact by:
  • Sending and following up requests with doctors’ rooms for further documentation including clinical coding queries, discharge summaries, typed reports.
  • Obtaining pathology results from various pathology services.
  • Liaising with wards and clinical areas to obtain missing clinical documentation.
  • Ensuring iPM (patient information) and Code Focus systems are kept up to date with accurate information regarding the status of all requests.

  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to prioritise workload effectively and meet deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with a professional telephone manner, and an ability to clearly and coherently convey relevant information to all stakeholders, both internal and external to Epworth
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (primarily Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Office)
  • A solid work ethic, and a can-do approach
  • Previous experience in a health setting (desirable)
  • Previous experience with a Patient Administration System (iPM, WebPAS, TrakCare) and a Scanned Medical Record (BOSSnet or CPF) (desirable)
  • Medical Terminology proficiency (desirable)
