Brisbane is home to one of our corporate offices, which is where this role is based.About your potential new position:As the Principal – Geostatistics, your primary purpose is to be the subject matter expert responsible for implementation and ongoing guidance on best practice and knowledge sharing of Geostatistics within the Glencore Zinc global and regional teams, and sites. You are required to remain current of the rapid changes in methodologies and technologies of the advanced subject, and to subsequently disseminate these improvements within the organization.As a technical leader you shall mentor and oversee complex projects targeting risk management and revenue optimization. Engagement will involve junior to senior geologists applying Geostatistics, mine engineering performing such tasks as stochastic planning, Geotech engineers for such topics as failure probabilities and other disciplines or areas requiring the application of advanced Geostatistics in their mandates.Some of your accountabilities, responsibilities and tasks will include:
  • Safety and compliance built into all activities.
  • Provide training and mentoring to mine and resource geologists, as well as various other technical disciplines seeking to apply Geostatistics to their workflows.
  • Update and maintain Global Guideline on Geostatistics defining the requirements within the field of resource evaluation. This includes estimation, validation, classification, and reporting of mineral resources for regulatory compliance (international reporting standards).
  • Provide routine Geostatistics training for users of all levels.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in risk reduction and deploy mitigation mandates.
  • Elaborate, validate and improve estimation setups and parameters.
  • Generate macros and scripts to facilitate workflows and disseminate to relevant users.
  • Perform various block model manipulations: calculations, flagging, depletion, reblocking, refining, cleaning and statistics.
  • Assist other technical disciplines in piloting integration of statistical data to their models (Geotech, metallurgy, environmental, etc.)
  • Compile reports on purpose, methodology, workflow, conclusions, and recommendations for Geostatistics mandates.
  • Demonstrate approximate economic value add of all Geostatistics mandates.
This is an exciting and highly complex role in a large organisation.As such we have high expectations, and you will need to have:
  • Extensive experience in mine geology and ore deposits with at least 10 years in mineral resource estimation using a variety of estimation methodologies.
  • A proven track record in geostatistical data analysis, resource modelling and estimation
  • Advanced user of mining and geostatistical software (Leapfrog Geo/Edge, Datamine Studio RM, Isatis, RMSP, Supervisor or equivalent)
  • Advanced understanding of the JORC Code and ability to sign Mineral Resources as a Competent Person (JORC)
  • Python scripting is required.
  • Knowledge in advanced Geostatistics.

  • Demonstrate an ability to educate and mentor in the discipline.
