
Engineer - Structural

- Technical Oversight: Review structural drawings and shop fabrication plans. Confirm build feasibility, material specs, and load requirements for steel frames, platforms, skids, and other structural assemblies.
- Design Support: Liaise with design engineers to resolve drawing errors, improve fabrication outcomes, and ensure constructability of designs.
- Quality and Compliance: Monitor workshop outputs for compliance with AS 4100, AS 1554, and AS/NZS 5131. Participate in dimensional inspections, weld quality checks, and assist with ITP processes.
- Workshop Collaboration: Provide day-to-day engineering support to boilermakers, welders, and supervisors. Offer guidance on best practices for weld sequencing, lifting, and handling.
- Problem-Solving: Triage fabrication challenges on the floor, including material issues, fit-up complications, and fabrication variances.
- Documentation: Maintain structural engineering documentation including mark-ups, redlines, calculations, and compliance checklists.
- Tooling and Safety Input: Provide advice on structural tooling requirements and lifting points. Assist with SWMS reviews or workshop setup for complex builds.
- Communication: Support internal stakeholders with updates on engineering changes, build status, and compliance items.
- Occasional Site Interface: Attend site if required to inspect or validate installed structural elements fabricated in the workshop.
- Liaise with welding Inspectors:
- Structural Engineering Knowledge - In-depth understanding of steel design, welding specs, and fabrication standards.
- Workshop Familiarity - Practical exposure to fabrication processes and workshop operations.
- Problem-Solving - Engineering-minded approach to resolving build or compliance issues.
- Communication Skills - Ability to clearly convey structural intent to tradespeople and liaise with external engineers.
- Attention to Detail - Ensuring build accuracy and compliance to engineering specifications.
- Team Collaboration - Working constructively with boilermakers, supervisors, and project stakeholders.
- Compliance Awareness - Working knowledge of WHS obligations in a fabrication context.
- Flexibility - Ability to switch between paperwork, QA, and on-the-floor advice with ease.
- Welding knowledge
- Certifications: Structural Engineering (required).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience in a structural or fabrication engineering environment.
- Licenses: White Card; confined space and forklift ticket desirable.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with AS 4100, AS 1554, and structural fabrication codes.
- Desirable: Experience supporting large infrastructure or hydro projects. Familiarity with CMMS and document control software.
