The People and Policy Branch are the front line of human resources (HR) for the department. We deliver timely and accurate responses to various client groups and support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, recruitment, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation.The Recruitment Services Section represents a core function of the department and drives the successful filling of critical roles, with the best candidate, at the right time, for the right cost. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Strategic Recruitment Advisor to join our motivated, supportive and professional team to support our people and the critical workforce needs of the department now and into the future.The Job
You will work within the Operational Recruitment Team to manage the department’s end-to-end recruitment activities, support the hiring area to apply attraction strategies and provide best practice advice on recruitment legislation and policy. You will make an impact on achieving effective and efficient recruitment outcomes for the department by delivering and supporting frontline and contemporary recruitment practices. The duties of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Partnering with business areas to provide recruitment advice and support operational requirements.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of recruitment projects, bulk round recruitment and process enhancement.
  • Implementing of best practice approaches to recruitment and providing advice and policy direction to managers and staff on HR policies.
  • Engaging and working collaboratively to build strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertaking supervisory activities including performance management, staff development and mentoring.
  • Conducting detailed research and gathering information from a wide variety of sources to assist with resolving and inform decision making on complex HR activities.
  • Contributing to the effective operation of the team, branch and divisional priorities.
Please note that this role may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Experience working with eRecruit platform or a similar Recruitment system.
  • Knowledge and understanding (or the ability to quickly obtain) of the Australian Public Service recruitment legislative framework.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of reporting and strategic and operational recruitment.
Skills and capabilities
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to accurately capture data and present it in a clear and meaningful way.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with influence.
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • The ability to build, maintain and manage stakeholder relationships with a high degree of professionalism.
  • The ability to think innovatively in completing tasks and resolving problems.
  • The ability to translate legislative reference into simple, everyday language and tailor recruitment approaches to suit different needs.
