GROUP BUSINESS ANALYSTAbout the roleAs the Group Business Analyst you will report directly to The Bloomfield Group CFO and will facilitate and improve options analysis, investment processes and decision making to assist business case owners in the development of business cases.The key purpose of this role is to build group wide business capability and to manage end-to-end fixed asset processes.Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the new investment process by assisting business case owners with the development of capital expenditure proposals, the approvals process and project reporting
  • Triage business cases according to total expenditure, risk, competencies of business case owners and the extent to which the project is outside the ordinary course of business to determine the appropriate level of support
  • Collaborate with other Finance personnel to tax effect and review financial model calculations
  • Develop templates and guidance materials for the preparation of business cases
  • Manage the annual capital budgeting process and coordinate the business of the Capital Approvals Committee
  • Promote and support compliance with the Capital Expenditure Approval Process and Purchasing and Supply Management System
  • Report monthly to Site Managers, Senior Managers and Board on Capital Expenditure
  • Complete post expenditure business case review for actual versus planned ROI
  • Apply a range of business improvement and financial skills and techniques to coach stakeholders towards well informed analysis of options for solutions to business challenges and priorities
  • Mentor business case owners to improve the group wide level of business acumen and, in particular, the level of option analysis and ability to translate coast and revenue drivers and physical measures into financial models
  • Manage end to end fixed asset processes including reviewing monthly capital work in progress balances, processing additions, disposals, depreciation and write offs and performing fixed asset reviews
  • Together with the Group Taxation Accountant, provide guidance to users in distinguishing between capital and repairs and maintenance
  • Review ledger balances to ensure that allocations between capital and repairs and maintenance are accurate and comply with tax and accounting legislation and guidance
Essential Criteria
  • Degree qualified accountant with an CA/CPA membership or Engineering/Business degree or a tertiary degree in another relevant quantitative discipline
  • Prior experience in heavy industry (open cut coal preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying cost drivers
  • Demonstrated experience in financial option analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in reducing complex problems to the simplest robust key assumptions for financial modelling purposes
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and critical thinking skills
  • Confidence in presenting logical, insightful and accurate business cases
  • High Level of financial analysis skills
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills
  • A highly developed understanding of engineering processes, cost drivers and language
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills and abilities
  • Demonstrated experience in Finance business partnering with a diverse range of stakeholders
Desirable Criteria
  • Prior experience with a major mining house
