The Research Associate will contribute to Federal Government (NHMRC) funded research under the broad direction of the Head of the Tissue Architecture and Organ Function Laboratory at the Centre for Cancer Biology to achieve defined objectives and test stated hypotheses.The project involves using high-content multiphoton FRET confocal microscopy, patient-derived glioma organoids, and tumour biopsy analysis to identify and test new molecular targets and their potential for developing new therapies for brain cancer.About UniSAis Australia's University of Enterprise. The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.Essential Skills and Experience
  • A postgraduate qualification in cell biology, cancer cell biology, cancer metabolism, neuroscience, fluorescence lifetime imaging, or related discipline
  • Experience - as demonstrated in the track record of publications and PhD/Master Thesis work - in (i) the culture and genetic manipulation (CRISPR/Cas9) of: human cell lines/iPSC/organoids/explant cultures, (ii) immunofluorescence, analysis of tissue sections, (iii) whole mount or whole organoid imaging, (iv) multimodal multicolour microscopy (confocal, multiphoton, FRET, FLIM), bioinformatics and image analysis skills
  • Demonstrated participation in relevant areas of research and knowledge of literature involved in, and laboratory procedures relevant to, the origin and causes of cancer, especially brain cancer, and the contribution of tumour microenvironment to the response of tumour cells to therapy
  • Demonstrated competency in recording, analysing, presenting and disseminating research to stakeholders, including preparing papers for high quality publications or posters for conference presentations
  • High-level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaborate effectively with others in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • Demonstrated high-level organisational skills to manage competing demands and meet project timelines
  • Knowledge of scientific and medical terminology relevant to the research project/s
  • Knowledge of animal ethics guidelines, biosafety requirements and procedures and/or experience in the safe handling of potentially biological hazards, including but not limited to (human and animal) blood, plasma and tissues
